The Day That is an innovative gift idea for children (or indeed anyone who has a special date to celebrate). Their photographer (who clearly owns a good alarm clock) takes pictures of the sun rising over the sea every morning, enabling us to purchase rather special gifts to commemorate a birth.
When The Day That offered me the chance to own one of their beautiful photos I was excited, as I went into labour in the early hours with both children I was up and about for both these sunrises, although unsurprisingly I was a bit busy to appriciate them!
Now I had the dilemma, which date to choose? I have two children, so it seems like a case of picking the one I love best! Then I thought that rather than choosing between my children I would see which picture I liked best. Unfortunatly, the pictures for the dates both children were born on were lovely, so that didn't help! The pictures even seemed to suit my children's personalities; my daughter's sunrise was calm and quiet, hiding behind the clouds; my son's bolder, with the weather looking like it might cause trouble.
In the end I decided to get my son's birth date, being second born he missed out on some things, I just didn't have the time to fill in his baby record book, I was too busy running around after a toddler. So this can be his momento.
The dates available run all the way back to June 2005 and each day has nine pictures to choose from in portrait and landscape. There are 4 different frames to choose from and it is possible to preview them with the picture of your choice. Its worth having a look with each different frame with your chosen picture as I found it really changed the warmth of the picture. My daughter's looked best with a silver frame, it made it seem very chilly; my son's looked best with palisander (the option shown in my picture).
Each picture can be personalised with the reason that date is special. I chose to write the date with the words "J's first sunrise".
I think this would make a beautiful and unusual gift to commemorate a baby's birth or a wedding day. Ours certainly has pride of place in the living room.

I must say that is a really lovely idea. Someone was asking on Twitter the other day for christening present ideas - this would be perfect. I'll see if I can forward it on to her. Hope you're well x
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I like is that it won't stop being a nice present in a few years. I've got a silver bangle that was given to me when I was christened, but as it fitted a baby it never comes out of its box now. If I had a picture it would still be on the wall
DeleteI love this, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI've just nominated your blog The Liebster Award, congratulation!
Why thank you very much! I shall write my response soon
